FAQ

Do I have to have experience in singing, acting or dancing to register with Ignite?

Absolutely not! We love training beginners, intermediate, and experienced

Will I have to audition?

Yes. Each year we develop a Musical Production. With your audition not only do we get an idea as to what part would be best for you, you get to choose which parts you would like to try out for!

Could I be rejected from the school with my audition?

No. Absolutely not. The auditions are to help us know your strengths,  areas that we can develop, and casting.

What happens at an audition?

The Teaching team is present. You present a short monologue(memorized or not), a song(track, instrument or acapella) and a dance.  If you have no dance experience, that's fine! We will have you do some movement for us. Our auditions are an encouraging, affirming space. We believe in seeing your gifts, not what you can not presently do. Also, this is a powerful experience in challenging yourself.

If I have been a part of Ignite in the past do I need to audition again?

Yes. We believe in the power of learning to present your amazing gifts to others. Auditioning is a wonderful skill. Also you have the opportunity to try out for the part that you would like!

Is there a dress code for classes?

Yes.

Males:  black ballet shoes, white shirt, black tights or shorts

Females: pink double soled ballet shoes, black body suit, pink or tanned convertible dance tights

hair that can, must be put up in a bun.

Why is there a dress code?

There are two main reasons we have a dress code.

1. For dance we need to be able to ascertain that you are holding your body correctly, that your body is in proper position, and that you are employing proper technique.

2. We believe in leveling the playing field. When our distinctions are based on the differences in our wonderful gifts, and our colorful personalities vs our exteriors a very powerful thing begins to happen, we begin to connect as a team, and as a creative family. This is an amazing phenomena that I have witnessed repeatedly, and I believe  it to be key in developing our self esteem, and bringing that magic to the stage. That special group gelling that you see that affects an entire audience. The end product being a close artistic community.

If Ignite teaches dance and voice should I quit taking my private lessons of voice or dance?

Absolutely not. If you are presently taking voice or in dance that is fantastic! The powerful skills you can receive from training focused areas is invaluable. You would bring just that much more to your musical theater work. If you are not connected to voice teachers or a dance school and would like to be, we have some names of wonderful schools and teachers. If you find that you want to focus exclusively on the excellent training through Ignite; Marvelous! Not only is our training fantastic, but if you choose you can take private extra training in a specific area with our teachers. Ask for more information if this interests you.
